As Air and Airs George Friend arc leaving the district after residing in Okarito for close on -seven years during which period they have had charge of the telephone post office, and mail contract business, as well as the store, the residents of Okarito took the opportunity at the interval of the social to hid them farewell. Air Jas. Donovan, on iK-half of tin- townspeople made a presentation of a travelling rug and when making the gift expressed the regret the residents felt at their departure. He said as neighbours there was always a kindly feeling existing while they were residents of the town and to show that their many good qualities were apreciatcd the residents decided to make the presentation that evening. Air Drummond as police constable, said that in his official capacity he had found Air and Airs Geo. Friend very obliging and courteous, lie wished them every success in their new home.

Air J. Schilling stated that he was asked by the AYaiho residents to represent them that evening and endorsed the sentiments expressed by the previous speakers. After tiiis the audience all joined in singing “They are jolly good fellows.” It is quite evident they carry with them the best wishes of all their friends for their future prosperity.
