The Council met at 7 p.m. Present —Messrs G. A. Perry (.Mayor), H. M. Coulson, G. Wood, ,J. King. A. Parkhill, A. 11. Pilkingtoii and F. Ale- (- rogor.
The minutes were confirmed and out ward correspondence approved. IX WAI! 1) COR 11ESPONDEXC K.
From Westland Cliamlior of Commerce, asking for use of Town Hall for meeting.— Received ; request granted. From Chief Inspector of Explosives, Y ellingtoii, asking return of licenses issued.— Received; the Town Clerk’s reply was received. From Cup tain Steadman, Defence Officer, Greyniouth, stating it was proposed to bold courses of 6 days on tlie West Coast centres this year for Territorials from U to If) years of age. and it was hoped that employees would lie granted leave. For those unable to attend the six days’ course, there would ho 20 night parades; suggesting that employers pay their employees for the period of training.—Received. The Council to assist in any way possible.
From Hokitika Fire Board, notifying levy for year was £570, the C'oiiil•il’s share being £26o.—Received.
From Hokitika School Committee, asking that drains around school grounds lie cleaned out.—Received ; referred to Public' Works Committee to attend to. From Westland branch of Canterbury Progress League applying for the customary vote towamls the funds.— Received. Air Coulson thought they should recognise the work of tlift League. He moved that £5 5s lie voted.—Seconded liv Mr Wood and carried.
From A. AY. Yarrall, complaining of the wandering cattle nuisance and asking that stops be taken to abate the 1 rouble.—Received. Air Coulson said that urgent steps should lie taken to cope with the trouble. It was resolved to instruct the Inspector to take urgent action. Air Gibbons stated that he was taking action daily, referring to recent prosecutions. From Hokitika Savings Hank Trustees, stating the Rank would give favourable consideration to an application by tlie Borough for a loan, at interest not exceeding 6 per cent, subject to a poll of llio ratepayers being in favour of the loan.— Received. Air Coulson reported on the result of the deputation, stating tlie money required would ho available at a satisfactory rate of interest.
The Treasurer reported receipts £l7l Its 7d, payments £277 17s lOd, credit balance £207 10s 4d.—Received.
Accounts amounting to £lO5 2s (id were passed for payment. The Abattoir Manager (Air J. jarman) reported during .Tune there were examined 10 cows, 80 bullocks .340 sheep, ill lambs, 10 pigs, 1 calves. Condemned—l bullock, 1 pig. Fees for month £66.—Received.
The Library Committee per Air Wood, submitted a report secured on the condition of the Free Library building roof which was stated to ho in an absolutely had condition, and required instant attention, the repairs required at once being of a substantial nature which would involve a substantial sum. —Received; referred to Library Committee to take the ncossarv action to place the roof in a sale condition. Alt King moved that tenders he invited for the shelter shed at the Abattoir as approved at last meeting.— Seconded by the .Mayor and carried. The Council rose at 7.30 p.m.
