THE “FRANCE” IN TROUBLE.

The following wireless message has been received by the Secretary to the Gone- a! Post and Telegraph Department : 9.-!fi p.m. S.O.S. from the Fri iicc, po-tion, latitude 21.28; longitnre 165.03. The Canadian Transporter is proceeding to help, and should arrive at noon on Thursday. Ships have
the position. Another message (intercepted) reads: “Sailing ship ‘France’ in position nord Boulari.” Tliis is followed by the words “Sitr Reeif Contrariet: —Position latitude 21.28. S. Longitude 165.03 E.” The message adds that the Australian stations arc dealing with the matter and the Canadian Transporter is 220 miles south-west of the Franco and is going to her assistance. Tile position given is westward of Cook Island. LATEST NEWS. WELLINGTON, July 13. Two further mesasges have Wen received by wireless re the ship France. One at 8.13 a.m. states—“ Further from S.O.S. sailing ship France: At 4.4 a.m. France reported weather clear; wind south, light ; sea rough. On reef will Give crew daylight to avoid men wound'd by falling off masts or yards.” At 4.49 a.m. France informed Canadian Transporter they did not consular assistance necessary. The latter lias now resinned her voyage.
A second received at 8.22 says: “Further re Fiance intercepted at 1.18 a.in. repeated calls S.O.S. At 1.25 a.m. France advised Canadian Transporter, tile vessel may be considered lost. The crew is to he saved. At 4.57 a.m. France advised the Canadian Transporter that it considered assistance nnnecessnry. The crew will endeavour to land at daylight.
