KXTEHTAIXEf) AT LI’.VCHKOX. WKLUXGTOX, July U. Hun Srinivasa Sastri, representative of the Indian Government, was entertained al hmelieun at Ifollamy’s to-day liv tlie Government. The IToinier presided, and was supported by the guest and the Speakers of both Houses. The large dining hall was filled bv members of the Legislative and heads of departments. The toasts of “ The King ” and “ Our Guest ” were honoured with niueh enthusiasm. In proposing the latter, Mr Massey paid a high frihute to Hon. Sastri’s services at the Imperial conference and to India magnificent eontiihutiou to the Great War, which entitled her to a place in representation in the Councils of the Empire- ... t Mr Sastri, replying, said it seemed j to him there was the greatest probabili | tv of a. elasli under the will of Provi- I deuce, for ends we might not be able ; to discern, between the Hast and West, j perhaps at no distant date, and it .was j the duty of every one to minimise, if : not altogether avert, that clash, airlj to this end he knew of no better medium than the influence of the Rrit- i ish Empire. India was anxious fo take j her place in that Empire, and he asked ' that India’s demands, neecesary to ell- j able her to take that place, should he ; sympathetically considered hv the white ; people of (lie Empire.
