WELLINGTON, July 8. A I Yogi ess Return as at June 201 h. Istates: —Employincut— The Department has placed 27,6-58 discharged soldiers in employment and there are at the present time 370 names on the ‘ KmployniciiL Wanted’ Register (Auckland lid, Wellington 134, Canterbury 92, Otago 37). Training—ln addition to 1-427 students who have been assisted financially with grants for the paymunt of fees and the purchase of text books, the Department, has arianged vocational training for 0059 partially disabled soldiers, apprcnlices, etc., and 5<35 oi this number have completed their cotir-

scs and have been absorbed in various industries. During the month of June 12 men commenced training, and 12 trainees completed their courses. There are 321 men still being trained, viz.., 221 subsidised workers and apprentices In private workshops or factories; -10 trainees at Hunkiira, and Tmihorenikau Training Farms, cite., and 51 others at ITiivesities, elr. The total amount expended to date on the provision of facilities for training and for the sustenance of trainees is £388,348. Financial Assistance—Loans to assist discharged soldiers to establish themselves in businesses or professions have been granted in 6288 eases at. a cost of £1,134,587. A farther 11,865 moil have received advances totalling .£704,956 for the purchase of household furniture or tools-of-t rule, and 4375 have been granted linam ial assistance in other directions. the amount; paid to or on behalf of soldiers under all headings being £2,240,998.

Repayments—Of the total amount of £2,240.998 expended on behalf of soldiers £1.839,540 represents loan advances for the establishment of businesses or for the purchase of household furniture, efe., and tip to the 31st. May lasi the Department had collected in respect thereof £1,004,024. Over 400;) loans have I teen entirely repaid, and principal repayments now amount to 52 pep cent of the total loan advances.
