WELLINGTON, July 9. The Wellington Racing Club’s Winter meeting opened in splendid weather and with a largo attendance. The course was good and big fields were the order of the day. The racing Was full of interest. The totalisator tool; C0d,5(53, as compared with £(53,97(5 10s on the corresponding day of last year’s meeting. Results:— Vittoria Hurdles.—Royal Exchange 1, Rowan 2, Sir Wai 3. Tt was a good start, and the winner led all the way, winning by four lengths, three lengths between second and third. Time 2.19. Trial Plate, (5 furlongs.—L’Amour 1. Lady Ridicule 2, Royal Despatch 3. Won by two lengths, with Royal Despatch a neck away. Time 1.17 2-5. First Hack and Hunters’ Steeples.— Seadown 1, Grand Canyon 2, Drown Linnets. Won easily, hv four lengths, third horse three lengths away. Time 5,19.
Stewards’ Handicap,-of 0 furlongs.— Listening Post 1, Passionless 2, Civilform 3. Won by half a length, a neck separating second and third. Time 1.17.
Wellington Steeplechase, of 3J miles. Master Strowan 1, Oakloigh 2, Waikaretu 3. Won by half a length, 2(1 lengths between second and tlijrd. Time 7.3.
Charity Cup one mile.—Arch Salute 1, Gold Kip 2, Demos 3. Won by three lengths, with Demos close up, and Some Fashion fourth. Time 1.47. Troritham Hurdles. —General Detain I, Penury Rose 2, Falstaff 3. Won by five lengths, with Falstaff close up. Time 3.21.
To Aro Handicap, six furlongs.— Wrangle 1, Liqueur 2, Dig Push 3. .Won b,v a nose, a length between second and third. Time 1.17.
VICTORIAN RACING. MELBOURNE, July 9. Steady rain throughout the night before soddened the track for the races, but the weather cleared for the racing, although parts of the course and the lawn were under water. Results: — National Steeples.—Mountain Go (12.7) 1, Resembler (9.2) 2, Monrose (12.01 3. All the acceptors started. King High showed the way round the turn the first time. Near the mile post. King High and nanma fell. Approaching the half mile, Mountain God was sixth. Hern bee led into the straight, but below distance, Mountain God came with a great run, took the h ad, and vmi easily by a length and a half- Woc'lno was fourth, and Doiran last. Time (5.35 J. In the Selling Plate at Lingfield, the riilors of the placed horses - wore, respectively. Cnrslnke (Australian) Arrhihahl (American) and Hector Gray (New Zealand). Each rider has a distinctive style, hut Carslako played with the other two all the way.
