Terrace End, wandered away from home nt ten o'clock on Eriday morning. The father searched vainly m the neighbourhood .and acquainted the police? who joined with private parties in ft search all day and night. Intimations of the occurrences were flashed on the screens at the picture shows, and an exhaustive search was continued on Saturday. In the afternoon, the child s body was found in a six-foot .drain m a paddock a mile from home. ho drain contained seven inches of water, and the medical evidence is that tho child was drowned. l.t is surmised the child fell into the death trap on Friday.

The 20-roomed residence ol John llindmaish, at Greenmeadows, was totally destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon. Tlie origin of the outbreak is a mystery. The occupants of the house were asleep at the time. The Napier Fire Brigade were summoned, and were able to save adjoining buildings. The building was a very old wooden one. and it burned rapidly. Very little was saved. The insurances are unknown, but the loss is estimated at seven* thousands.
