[by TELEGRAPH—PER CHESS association] WELLINGTON, July 0. The council. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. MARRIAGE ACT. Replying to a question by Hon AT. Cohen based on a recent cablegram from Sydney concerning the Marriage Act, Sir AV. Fraser said wliat Mr Massey said to Rev AVilson was to the effect that the Marriage Act 1020 was working to his satisfaction, aiid ho W.'is unaware of any complaint having been lodged regarding it. Sir AAL Fraseradded that the Registrar General stated lie had not reported to Government any instance of priest or clergyman offering to treat the Act with contempt. The act was working satisfactorily so far as tho Department was concerned. The Address-in-Reply was' moved by Hon Collins and seconded by Hon Smith. THE HOUSE. The House met 2.30 p.m. SECOND BONUS CUT. Tn the House, .Mr .Massey announced that a second cut on Public Service bonuses would he made oil the following bases—Oil salaries below £IOO, a cltt of £5; on salaries over £IOO, and up to £S()I). a cut of £lO. N< M •ONITDENCE MOTION. The debate on the Address-in-Reply was resumed by .Mr AYilford, who moved the following amendment (1) “The Government lias forfeited the confidence, of the House and country, because amongst other tilings, it lias failed to redeem the promise that on the repeal of the Second Ballot, allot her method of election would he substituted. (2) It failed to efficiently administer the finances of the country, thereby imposing upon the people additional burdens and has failed to curtail or control gross extravagancies and wasteful expenditure in tho administration of the public departments, and to run such departments on sound business lines. (3) ft has failed to lay on the table of the House the Economy Committee’s report upon which is said to he based the supposed Government economies. (4) Tt has failed to prevent the aggregation of land which is a menace to the well-being of the State. (5) It has failed to deal satisfactorily with tho problem of unemployment.” The debate was continued hv Hon Xosworthy, Afr A"citch and Sir John I.uke. The debate was adjourned on the motion of ATr Horne and the House rose at 1".35 p.m.
