In the House of Representatives the treasurer, in the course of his financial statement, said the expenditure for 1921-22 totalled £65,118,265; and eeipts £64,913i085, leaving a deficit <p £205,180. The estimated surplus for \ ' 1920-21 was £6,618,327. At the close of this financial year it was found that practically the whole of that remained in the Treasury; therefore the accumulated surplus was now £6,413,147.
