WELLINGTON, July 5 THE COUNCIL.

The Legislative Council met at 2.39 p.m.

, Sir AVm Fraser moved a motion of condolence with the relatives of the late Seymour Thorne George. Hons Campiel and Hislop supported, and the motion being passed, the Council adjourned at 2.42 p.m. out of respect for the deceased legislator. THE HOUSE. The House met 2.30 p.m. Tlie following bills were introduced and read a first time :—Wairau Harbor Board Empowering Bill (Air AleCallum) ; Proportional Representation and Effective Voting Bill (Mr Veiteh), Justices of the Peace Amendment Bill (Mr AA’ilford). At the close of the formal business, Air Massey moved the customary motion of condolence with the relatives of the late. Seymour Thorne George, a former member of the House ijf ReprcsentntoVes and Legislative Council. The motion was seconded by Mr AYilford, supported by Afessrs Parr, J. S. Dickson, and Harris.

The House rose at 3.50 p.m. till 7.30 p.m. as a mark of respect to the deceased member.

At 7.30 p.m. Afr Jones (Kaiapoi) moved that a respectful address he presented to his Excellency the GovernorGeneral, in' reply to his Excellency’s speech. The motion was seconded by .ilr Mackenzie (Auckland East). At
