There has been little mention in the cables recently of plague in Australia, lint the Minister of Health .(Mr Parr) states he receives regular bulletins from the Federal and New South Wales Departments of Health. The Minister today said that the latest bulletins reported the occurrence of two cases of human plague in Sydney at the end of .lime and six plague infected rats were found. “This,” said Air Rare, “shows that the risk of the disease coining to New Zealand has not yet ended. Ino tieo that the Director-General of Health at Sydney advised his Government last month that he feared a rather heavy i o ■urrenco of the plague next summei, and recommended that the Government should prepare for it. All this goes to show the necessity for our precautions being continued. There are a great many rodents still in the ports, and in \i.eMand and Lyttelton. Rat catching is to cease in Wellington, and in view of tlie facts, I have given, T propose to have a talk with the Mayor about the matter. T think the city should keen some operations, going. rather than take big risks.”
