The i consignees will have the first opporj Utility of taking the salvaged cargo. ; SCOW ASHORE. WELLINGTON. June 25. Mr i!. F. Morris (Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department) has erteivid a message from the Radio Station at Awotuii as follows:—“Capo I ria vail Diemiaii advises that the scow Here is shore seven miles south from the lighthouse. All hands atre safe. The vessel is high and dry on the bunch and is undamaged. There is every chance of getting her afloat.”
MOTOR FATALITY. PALMERSTON N.. June 23 Mr Samuel Coomhp (farmer), Mr Whitccrimbe (manager of the Bank of New South Wales) and Frank Lawrence (lawver of Marlon) were motoring on the Grontforcl-Martoii Road at 9 o’clock this evening and the car rail over the wall of a bridge at a dangerous bend in the road. When the party were discovered. Lawrence was found dead, pinned underneath tin* machine, death icing piohahly instantaneous. The injni’i -s of tin* others are not at present regarded as serious. Lawrence is a single man. was recently admitted to the bar. and was a very line athlete. His parents reside at Wanganui.
CIVIL, SERVANT ARRESTED. Wellington. June 20
An ox-Civil Servant. W. N. Ward, was arrested on a- charge, of stealing Government documents. He had been employed in the-Government Land Registry Office, am, retired on superannuation on March 31st. His duty was to receive documents, attach stamps and pass them on to another office. For some time past the office had been receiving enquiries about deposited documents of which no trace could Ik- found. It is alleged that 10 documents were found at Ward’s residence.
