DAIRY INDUSTRY

PALMERSTON N., June 22

A conference of A. and P- Associations here to-day affirmed the desirnl.iity of setting up governing bodies to consolidate the rules of such bodies. A local committee is to draw up a proposed constitution, to present to a further conference during the Palmerston North spring show. At a conference of dairymen to-day Mr D. Jerusalem (Palmerston North), moved as a recommendation to the Executive of the X.P.A. to confer with the South Island executive with a view to holding auction sales of dairy produce in the Dominions.

Mr A. P. Fleming (Dunedin) said a similar resolution has recently been passed in the South Island After a. long discussion. Mr Jerusalem withdrew bis motion,by leave, and substituted one as follows“ That this meet ing favours the setting up of a committee to confer with the South Island Dairy Association, with a. view to investigating the advisability of establish ing auction sales of dairy produce.” The mover purposely avoided specifying Dominion sales, to allow of awider scope. TTc added that the Committee should report in three months in the dairy companies. An amendment was moved by Mr AY. Broadbelt (T.evin) that the matter of evolving a satisfactory marketing scheme be referred back to the Pool Committee, and that- the South Island Association be asked to appoint four members to the Committee.
