Two special constables were cycling near Ready, in Antrim, and a farmer who got in the lino of the firing. when he was shot dead by gunmen, who were concealed behind a hedge. TAKING DEFEAT BADLY. LONDON, June 21. The Irish extremists are taking thendefeat badly. Fiery speeches were delivered at the graveside of Wolfe Jone. Mr Mellowes declared it might he necessary to prevent the subversion of the Republic with their lives.
CATHOLIC MANIFESTO. (Received this day at 12.25 p.m.) LONDON, .Tune 21. The Catholic Hierarchy has issued a manifesto denouncing the anti-Catho-lic a nd anti-Protestant outrages in Ulster and South Ireland respectively, and calls on the people to aid the Government in bringing the criminals to justice. It says the primary duty of the Government is to crush the lawless elements.
