A Fable

A MESSAGE FROM MARS. AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. (Received this day at 9.50 a.m.) , SYDNEY, June 20. In connection with yesterday's cables announcing -Marconi’s failure to discover any indication that Martians had been attempting to communicate with the Earth, Bishop Leadbeater who came into prominence in regard to the late Thcosopliical split, would appear to he able to supply information to assist Marconi. According to a lecture delivered by the President of Sydney Tlicosophieal .Lodge, l-eadheater claims that he has been a frequent visitor, in nil astral sense, to thy Red Planet. He inspected portion of it and found civilisation somewhat similar to ours, though the inhabitants were much smaller, not above five feet, and dressed in brilliant garments. They grow flowers and live in towns constructed on most model lines. The walls are transparent to I hose within and opaque from without. All manner of electrical contrivances arc used. Personal exertion is reduced to a minimum. All children belong to tho State and do not know their parents. No disease exists, and when the people tire of life, they will themselves into death. Everybody is perfectly happy. The lecturer did not mention polities or taxation, hut presumably the reference to perfect happiness meant he excluded them. He explained that lie did not accept Leadheater’s statements, nor did ho disbelieve them, lie had had no such experiences himself.
