A bedroom in Caretaker Leslie’s quarters was entered and lansacked and thou set on fire. When discovered the flames had a good hold, but the brigade extinguished them in time. It was then found that other rooms had been visited and much wanton damage done by someone. The china and ornaments were in such a "ay as to suggest the action of a burntie. rather than a mere robber. WELLINGTON, .Tune 12.
A inati was seen acting in a suspicious manner in the Town Hall building where preparations for a bazaar were in progress. He was put off the premises but returned, and was ordered out again. He was then seen to go upstairs towards Leslie's quarters. A cinema man noticed a smell of lire and simultaneously Master Turfis (Leslie's stepson) returned and found tile place lull of smoke, lie ran across the street to the Eire Brigade ami gave the alarm. He noticed a stranger in the bedroom throwing water oil the fire, hut in the confusion afterwards he disappeared. Leslie was uninsured.
