Returned Soldiers’ Advances.
' PERIOD EXTENDED TO DEC. 31st _ WELLINGTON Juno 9. Cabinet has decided to extend to until the end of the present year, the | period during which the Repatriation I Department u ill make advances to re- ; turned soldiers. The period originally fixed was to expire on June 30th next. This extension makes it possible for .soldiers to continue to secure business loans, furniture grants and other benefits extended them hv department. Hon Mr Guthrie says the extension is instilled by the very fine results achieved, and by the very good work of depart menal officers and local committees. The total amount of advances made by the Repatriation Department had been roughlv one million eight hundred thousand pounds. Most of this money was lent in small sums, and the security very often had been light, yet the repayments had amounted already to 55 per cent, of the total advances, the sum still outstanding being in the neighbourhood of eight hundred thousand pounds. The Department had over 17 thousand outstanding accounts hut the vast majority of the men were fulfilling their obligations.
