The Arbitration Court, in its general order of May 10th, provided for all apprentices’ wages being reduced by Is Cd per week. This order has now been modified by a further order, filed today which reads as follows: an-from May 16. the total rates of remuneration of those apprentices whose basic rates are now fixed at 15s, 20s. 255, 30s, and 40s per week, after their first, second, third, fourth and fifth year respectively, shall be decreased by Is Od per week in those cases only in which the bonuses existing imemdiately prior to May 15, 1922, amounted to or exceeded Is Od, and that in those eases in which the isting immediately prior to-May 15 do not amount to Is Od, the total rates ot remuneration shall bo decreased by six sum only as will reduce the rates of remuneration to 15s, 20s, 255, 30s am 40s respectively.” In a memorandum, the Court says that the question of the different, rates of bonuses granted to apprentices was brought before the Court at Auckland „nd Dunedin. The Court’s general rates were increased some time ago to 15s 20s 255, 30s and 40s per week, and ese were intended to ho the standard rates granted independently of the increased cost of living. Further cost of living increases were, however granted in many eases, while in other cases, the increases were not applied for. Tn order to adjust the matter equitably, the Court has decided that apprentices receiving the the scale rates fixed by the Court shall not have their wages reduced during the current six monthly period below the basic rates. The cases of apprentices paid under other scales will he dealt with on individual applications, if necessary, in accordance vrjth merits of the particular case,
