It is understood a supply of tip-up seats have been secured for Princess Theatre aiid are to hr installed in the Dress Circle, where tin- accommodation will bo increased considerably. The present seats in the circle will he removed to the stalls enclosure down stairs, and make that part of the theatre also more comfy via hie for patrons. The death has occurred of Mr .Michael Kdwnrd Powley. one-time champion wrestler of New Zealand, at the comparatively early age of 54 years. Tile late Mr Powley was at the time of Ids death proprietor of the Gladstone Hutel Reef ton, and many years ago held the license of the Duke of F.dinhurgh, Greymouth. He always took a great interest in all forms of sport. He leaves a willow, four sons ami two daughters.
Further information concerning the blocking of streams near Kumara, about which Mr T. E. Y. Seddon M.P., approached the State Forestry Department. is to the effect that a report lias been receive?! by the Commissioner of State Forests and that it was found that none of the land was ever State forest so that the work of cleaning out the creeks does not coino within the scope and responsibility of the Forest Service.
A former resident of Black’s Point, lnangahua. .Mr .Joseph Bennett, died last week at Nelson at the age of 78. He formerly was employed in the Energetic and other mines, and left Reefton about 20 years ago for West Australia, where he had a turn of good fortune From there he went farming in the Northern Territory, and failing health a short time ago. compelled his return to a more equable climate, and he went to Nelson, where his demise occurred as stated. The late Mr Bennett was unmarried.
