Princess Chrysanthemum
THURSDAY, JUNE 15th
It will be good news for locril theatre goers to learn that in response to various invitations, Mrs Staveley lias been able to arrange, through the courtesy of Mr Torn Pollard for the production of the juvenile opera, “Princess Chrysanthemum” at the Princess Theatre on Thursday night of next week. The juveniles all hail from Greymouth, and wild travel by special train. The company numbers over seventy. Speaking of the opening performance at Greymouth Opera House, the “Argus” said: —lt was an ambitious enterprising person who first conceived the idea of launching a. juvenile operetta in Greymouth, hut Monday night saw the consumntion in “Princess Chrysanthemum,” a charming Japanese Operetta written by C. King Proctor, which was presented at Pollard’s Opera House to a bumper audience. Anything in which the juveniles are concerned meets with a sympathetic and ready reception by their elders, who are ever ready to applaud the efforts of the little ones and overlook whatever shortcomings may be apparent. All the performers, from the Great and Mighty Emperor of Japan, down to the smallest of his subjects, did trojan work, arid assisted in the success of the production. The whole production was in the capable hands of Mrs Staveley of Hokitika, whom, as an amateur, is must be conceded, deserved a high mode of praise for the herculean task she carried through with so much success. Mr F. Restienux was responsible for the musical directorship, and as usual, did his part well, having the performers and orchestra always amenable to his baton.
