Disgraceful scenes were witnessed at_ the week-end meeting of the Reichstag — Foreign Committee. Trouble began by Herr Stinnes stating tlie occupation of Ruhr might not he such a had tiling after all. ■ Schmidt (Socialist 1 Minister) sharply condentned the remark upon which Helfferich retorted that the Minister Deed Dot lose his temper. Others besides Stinnes thought tlie Allied occupation of Ruhr might turn out rather a good thing for Germany. Considerable disorders ensued. Breitschend told Helfferich he ought to be ashamed of himself. Helfferich replied.—“l will slap yoiu face in a minute, if you do not shut up,” adding: “You and your friends little know where Germany as drifting The pandemonium ended hv a threat to suspend the sitting. - , In a subsequent debate Helfferich was reminded he had written, ‘Capita has no Patriotism,” while Stinnes was alleged to have publicly said, The German Empire is merely a lug business proposition.”
