The “Daily Telegraph” publishes authenticated official telegrams sent by the late Talaat Pasha, Grand Vizier of Constantinople, to the Turkish Prefee- "C ture at Aleppo during 1915-16, authorising the massacre of Armenians. The telegrams, which reveal the pitiless savagery of Turkish mentality, were among the documents .seized when General Allenbv captured Aleppo. following quotation is typical of Talaat’B instruction:—
“As you have been previously informed, Government have decided on the complete extermination of all Armenians resident in Turkey, without regard whether they are women, children or invalids. Without listening to of conscience an end nuts-t be put to their existence, however tragic be the means of extermination.”
Another telegram warns tlie Perfecture that American Consuls, acting under instructions from their*Government, were making inquiries into the Armenian massacres, therefore instruct so that there be no incidents of a nature. to attract attention. While a procession of Armenians being taken to their homes are passing our towns and larger villages foreigners should he convinced by their observation that the Armenians are' merely being deported to a new residence. For this reason, it is important to display an attitude of delicacy towards them, and only resort to the 'usual mU'hcds in favcurablq spots. ■•’.*'* *
