NOTICES OF MOTION

<1 That having regard to the unsuitability of the Ross train service, and the extra traffic thrown oil the millli haul the Government bo asked to place the bridges on the main road between Hokitika and .Ross in a condition safe ti cany heavy traffic, including motorlorry transport.

(2) That ill view of the approach ol the Diamond Jubilee Year of Westland, and the suggestion the occasion should he marked by an Industrial Exhibition, a committee consisting of Messrs Perry, Jeffries, Butler. Wild, Aitken, Davidson and lion. IT. L. Michel he soi up to report to the September Coiiferenee ol Local Bodies oil ways and means to carry through the project, and suggest a probable date which would be suitable for tlie co-operation of onisidv exhibitors, including the members of the Industrial Associations in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. (;l) That this Conference of Local Bodies; while thanking the Government for the marked progress made of late with the Otirn Tunnel works, joins with the Canterbury organisations in expressing a desire that the through line of the East and West railway might he operative as early as possible lor passenger trains and mail traffic -at least, and to that end respectfully suggests that the authorities should endeavour to arrange fop the transport ol tin' traffic referred to. throughout the coming summer.

(4) That with a view to assisting the West Coast dairying industry in general, and the Wesihmd dairying industry in particular, this Conference of Local Bodies asks the Public Works Department to arrange for the transit of hatter and cheese exports through Hie Otira tunnel for next dairying season so as to avoid the delay, deterioration, and loss now being sustained by the factories through the indifferent sea service provided for the cxpoits at* present.

Note. It is suggested one or more trucks a week might he provided through the tunnel on such day and hour as would least interfere with the internal works, and if so fixed. the freight available could he arranged accordingly to suit the convenience id the Department.
