HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL
I-TUDAY, MAY 2Gth.
The Council met at 7.30 p.in. Present—Messrs G. A. Perry (Mayor), Coiilsi'ii, Pelham, King, Blank, Fal'khilll, I’ilkington, Lloyd and McGregor. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. DEPUTATION. Messrs Myers, O’Halloran and B»r----roWmaii .waited on the Council asking for a street light in the vicinity of the corner of Park and Sale Streets. A request was also made for an open drain from Hall street towards Urittan street in the same locality. A lengthy discussion take place on the subject, and there was must diversity of opinion. Then .Mi- McGregor moved that the Council as a whole visit the ground and report to next meeting. Seconded by Air Perham and earned. IX AY AUP C( ill 1! KSI’OXDENCE.
Prom Inspector of Explosives, \\ ellinglmi enquiring intention of Council as to administering the Explosives Act and approval of model bye-laws for same.— Received : The Mayor moved that the Borough undertake the carrying out of the Act ami that the Government he asked to gazette the bye-laws affecting the position. Westland branch, inviting Council fn be represented at deputation to Piime Minister at Chi istekureb on June fith. and inviting a roprosontativc to lie preseul.—Deceived; The Town Clerk was appointed to represent the Council as he was going to Christchurch next week.
From Public Trust Office forwarding coupons for Abattoir loan account. — Deceived.
From Hokitika Beautifying Association drawing attention to the danger to tlie War memorial owing to recent lopping nf trees; also asking that permission be given to close the centre gates of Cass Square to save damage to grass in centre.—Deceived ; The Council to inspect trees and permission was given to close the gates. Fmm M. Housotn and Co., quoting for Ford truck and tip body at £3OO. Deceived; Mr Lloyd reported that the committee set up had found that : ,n electric truck would be far 100 expensive for the Council to invest The .Mayor advised the Council to make further enquiries. After discussion consideration was held over till next meeting to enable further information to be obtained. From Medical Officer of Health, lo:-

From Westland Sub-Union complaining that the sneep grazing on Cass Square leave the ground in an unsatisfactory condition.—Receibed; It was resolved to reply stating that no further ("sheep would be grazed on Cass Square during the season. From Gore liorough Council asking support to resolution urging that one half of amusement tax ho paid to the local bodies where it was collected—Deceived ; to be supported. From Ladies Hockey Club per L. Nightingale hon. secretary; asking that the eastern part of Cass Square he rolled aiul put in order for hockey play. Received ; It was stated that arrangements.for the western side to be available on .June 3rd at 10 a.m. for a hockey match had been made.
From W. E. White, asking for approach to residence, Dolleston street. —Received; and granted on usual conditions.
From J. Y. Hall, ashing for permission to connect drain with main diain in lie veil Street. —Deceived and request granted.
Front Westland Hospital-Board inviting Council to be present at deputation to Minister of Health at Hospital on Sunday next. —Received ; I h,, Mayor, Messrs l\-rham and Pilkington. to attend.
From Timaru Borough Council asking support to resolution that all Electric Hoards he formed as the result of n petition instead of by a pull. Received ; to be supported. From Department of Labor asking for returns. Deceived; Town Clerk to reply. D EPORTS. The Treasurer reported receipts £lO3 2s Id; payments £ol> 11s Cd; credit balance £l2l Os 7d. Received. Accounts amounting to £133 -Is 6d. were passed for payment. Mr McGregor referred to the annoyance caused hy the vagaries of ' the Town Cluck ami asked that immediate steps be taken to have the repeated complaints remedied. Alter'discussion, in which Councillors generally expressed the need for proper attention being given, it was lsolvcd to notify the attendant that unless the proper time was kept that the engagement be terminated.
