A committee consisting of representatives of producers mid exporters was appointed at a conference with Mr Rodgers, with the object of determining the conditions for granting the Commonwealth subsidy to meat export industry. R. H. Edkins on behalf of the United Graziers Association of Australia stated that without Government assistance the industry would he unable to operate this season. AH' Earl Page replying, denied the charge and added that the present sugar agreement was conceded at the request of several country members. The agreement had been brought into disfavour owing to the unbusinesslike methods of the Government, in buying sugar abroad causing huge losses, necessitating retail prices remaining at sixpence to recoup the losses.
