BV TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSN., COPYRIGHT DOMINION finances. Wellington, May 25. A statement of the receipts and expenditure of the Consolidated Fund for the year ended March 31st last, is published in to-night’s “Gazette”. It shows a falling off on ordinary revenue of £(5,193,000.

Hie principal revenue decreases are: Customs £3, 313,000; income tax £2,-2-10,000; stamp duties £300,000; railways £23,000; land tax .Col,ooo. The Post and Telegraph revenue, shows an increase of £IOB.OOO. The beer duty increased £98.000. The balance at the beginning of last year was £8,591.208, as against a balance of £17.538,110 for the previous year.

The total receipts for the year weic £38,301,451, as compared with £51.249.. 938 for 1920-21.

On the expenditure side, the permanent appropriations show an increase ol £039,000, mainly under tin, heading of interest ntnl sinking fund. The subsidies to local bodies, etc., show increases of £IO.OOO and £70.000 respectively.

The annual appropriations expenditure shows a decrease of C 211.000.

The balance at the beginning of the current year (1922-23) was £7.s.'pj.3r>o. as against £8,591.208 at the beeinn ng of 1921-22. HEAVY RACING TANKS. CHRISTCHURCH. May 25. A difficult problem in regard to motor l'ghing came before Magistrate Barton, when the police proceeded against a motorist on a charge of having dazzling headlights. Mr lluruard for the motor association .submitted that tbe lens used was a type which prevented dazzling by a refracting beam.
