The electrical employees strike lias been declared off and work is to he resumed to-day, conditional on an early hearing of the ease by the Arbitration Court. A LENGTHY DEBATE. SYDNEY, May 21. The Presbyterian Assembly after a lengthy debate adopted in slightly amended form Harper’s resolutions mentioned in Saturday’s cables, dealing with the Declarations of Faith sent them for consideration by the General Assembly of Australia. Harper explained the aim of the resolutions was tha modern philosophy should not be allowed to creep into Christianity. The revision of the confession was necessary in its new form. Ft should occupy forty lines instead of forty pages, and certain only acceptance of belief in the Deity and omnipotence of Christ.
The Herd. .John Edwards whose address from the Moderator's chair last year was the cause of Harper's action, said certain statements of his which had given rise to the present pioposals were made in order to provoke thought, lie believed more lirrnly in the essentials of their doctrine than lie had ever done before. He appealed for freedom of thought and speech.
The Assembly subsequently adopted the Kev. Button’s resolution that where as our own standard creeds aru.se out of problem sand controversies of all age long passed, and therefore clothed in thought forms of philosophical and theological of a time very, very different. from the present time, that the General Assembly of Australia he requested to appoint a committee io make full enquiry with a view to determining what attitude the Presbyterian Church of to-day should adopt towards those creeds and confessions more particularly the Westminster confession and catechism.
