A deputation from the Friendly Societies. consisting of Messrs Foddersen. Ward. Fox, Conning and (Jrnufskv waited on the Board in connection with a proposal for a reduction of fees to he charged members of Friendlv Societies. Mr Feddersen on behalf of the Druids and other Friendly Soiicties. submitted I a proposal that members of the Frieiul|lv Societies and their dependants he I charged half rates, the Societies to | guarantee pavinent to the Roald. Mr .1. Ward (Ililieriiianst supported the pmoesal as outlined. Uv notice, Mr ltlank moved that the resolution of the Hoard fixing the charge for maintenance at 9s lor moulds of Friendly Societies he rescinded. Seconded by Mr Chinn, lie did so because the Department approved and he thought it would he an advantage to the Hoard to he assured payment of one hall of the cost.

Mi- Davidson opposed the motion. The Friendly Societies were asking 1o assist them by giving them admission at half rates, lie was opposed to granting the request.

Air .Morel supported the motion. Air Blank said he could not agree with Air Davidson that the Friendly Societies were out for self-help. 1 hoy were there to help each other, ami lie felt it would he a distinct advantage. The Chairman and Mr Ritchie supported. The motion was agreed to. .Messrs Blank. Chinn, Morel and Chairman, voting for and Messrs Davidson, Monk and nitchie against. Air Blank then moved that the charge for Friendly Societies and dependi’ints for niaintenonee he half rates from Ist June. Seconded by Mr Breeze. Mr Hitchie moved an amendment that two thirds he charged. Seconded by Air .Monk' and lost. Ihe motion was then carried. REDOUTS. The House Committee reported that Air Varney was making good progress with the drainage scheme; recommending a number of requirements.— Deceived and adopted. Accounts amounting to £573 (is lid were passed lor payment.

'(’he Surgeon Superintendent reported natit'iits in AVestlaml Hospital on April Ist as 30; admitted during month 21. Total treated during month 51.
