The Chairman speaking in reference to the condition of Cass Square, said it would he a good thing if the pedestrian traffic on the grass could he minimised to avoid making unsightly* footways. It was resolved to suggest, to the Borough Council steps might be taken to reduce the cross-field traffic. Referring to the east side of the Square, it ivas stated the present lopping of branches would weaken the main trunks of the trees, and there was a danger as the weight °f the trees was being thrown to the other side, that the War Memorial might lie in danger. Mr Pilkington promised to make enquiry from the Borough authorities. It wag suggested also that- the eastern side might he raised by sand where hollows were now holding water. It was resolved to ask Mr Haile’s opinion in regard to drainage matters and also in reference to the ornamentation of the War Memorial plot.
