WESTLAND COUNTY COUNCIL.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 24. ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN. The Council met at noon. Present: Messrs B. AVard (County Chairman), T. R. Cliesterniiiii, L. H. Morel, J. A. Murdoch, E. A. AVells, AV. Jeffries, T. AV. Duff, AV. H. Chinn and J. Ritchie. The Chairman (Air AA’ard) said he had come to the end of his Chairmanship, lie wished to thank them one and all for the support ttnd co-operation given to him during his term of office. As time wore on the office of Chairman required more and more attention. He had (teen helped wonderfully by the Clerk and Treasurer (Mr Evans). The Council was very lucky to have such a talented officer. 11c had done wonderfully well throughout. The other officers had also clone their work well and faithfully. He thanked them heartily for the support given during the year. The County Clerk (Mr Evans) took the chair and invited nominations for ( luiirinnn for the ensuing year. Mi Murdoch proposed .Air Dull. Mr AVard proposed Mr Jeffries. Mr Chesternian proposed Air AVells. Mr Murdoch declined nomination. The voting was as follows: —[‘or Air Duff- Aves, Messrs Murdoch, Dull'. Noes.—Messrs Morel. Noe’s. Messrs Morel. Ritchie. Chinn. Jeffries and AVard. 1— 5. All- AA'. Jetfries was declared electee! Chairman for the ensuing year and took the chair. Air Jeffries returned thanks lor his election. He took the honor as a great compliment to the Southern Riding. He felt that riding would require a considerable amount of attention in the coming year. He asked for the hearty support of members, his one aim being to advance the best interests of the whole of AVestlnnd. The Chairman then moved a vote ol thanks to the retiring Chairman. (Mr AVard) and the retiring Chairmen ol Committees. The motion was carried hv acclamation. , ~ Afr AA’ard voiced his thanks tor the motion. He also congratulated Afr Jeffries on his election as Chairman. He believed his knowledge of the wants of AVestland was equal to nnv member and that he would use his hint" ledge for the best of the "hole district. The Chairman briefly replied and the Council ad ion rued.
