Coming to New Zealand.
AMERICAN SCIENTISTS’ VISIT WELLINGTON, May IS. About May lilth a party of scientists L leaving the State Lnivcrsltl of lowa via Vancouver for the Fiji Islands and New Zealand. It is projiosed to remain a few weeks in Suva, where they expect to make a brief study of the coral reels. They hope to reach Auckland during the first week in duly and to remain in New Zealand about seven or eight weeks.
The official party consists of Professor diaries .Nutting, zoologist and director of the party; Professor It. li. Wylie, botanist ; Professor Dayton Stoner, entomologist and ornithologist; Mr A. ('. Thomas and Mr W. S. (■leeks, geologists.
At tin* meeting of tlio Wellington Philosophical Society Inst evening, ;i letter was received stating the general plans of the geologists while in New Zealand. They hoped to see the wonderful volcanoes, geysers, hot springs, and attendant phenomena in the North Island, Mount Kgmont kauri guin beds. White Island, and the haunts of the rare tuatara. In the South Island they hoped to see some of the glaciers and famous mountain scenery id the Southern Alps, fiords, waterfalls and other features of the West Otago coast, l ake Waklipu, the Hemarkahles and oilier points .
'I he party would also like to see some of the fine collections and museums of the Dominion and Dr Aylie hopes to have opportunities of studying plant life in the South Island in July and August. The chairman (Dr C. H• Adams) said tile society would, no douht, welcome the guests on their arrival, when it v.fml.l be better .aide to make sugges-
tions. The letter was referred to thb council of the society.
