APPLICATIONS FOB EXEMPTION AUCKLAND. May 19.

The first applications for exemption from the award of the Arbitration Court reducing the cost ot living bonus by 5s were made to-dav. One application made on heliall ol the city butchers. It was stated that there was a special term in the agreement that the wages should not he red 1 iced dining the time it was in force. The employers agreed that such was the case.

Regarding the freezing workers and allied trades an application was also made for exemption. Mr Sill, for the union, said that this application would involve the whole freezing industry of the Dominion, and that the ownois much preferred that the case should he heard at Christchurch. The industry was covered by a Dominion award, and while the unions had filed applications for exemption, instead of hearing each separately, it would be better to de l with the whole matter. The Christchurch employers had agreed to course. ‘ Tiie Judge said that as Christchurch appeared to be the headquarters of industry he would In 1 prepared to deal with the whole of the applications there.

This course was agreed to. In the case of the carpenters and joiners’ dispute, there also was an application for a Dominion award. Mr Bloodworth, for the workers, said he had not cited the federated builders but the individual association. His Honour said this matter could he remitted to the Court at Dunedin. There were AVellington and Christchurch applications that could ho heard at tho same time. This was agreed to.

Regarding the tallyman’s application, it was agreed that it lie withdrawn, provided the Union Company and the other shipping companies make no reduction in the overtime.
