One of the visiting farmers from the Grey Valley yesterday expressed himself delighted with his good fortune in coming along to the Winter School. He recognised the value of the occasion, and the worth the information gained would be to him in the future. He further expressed the hope that the school would be an annual recurring event.

Messrs Henderson (President), Mr MoAlpine (Vice-President) and Climie ((Organiser) of the Canterbury- Progress League, accompanied by some Canterbury farmers and public men, are expected to arrive here from Christchurch this evening to attend the remaining part of the Winter School session. Prior to the lecture by Mr Condliffe to-morrow evening at 7.15 o’clock, a welcome will be extended to the visiting gentlemen.

Arangements are now well in hand in connection with the Chrysanthemum Show.. The following have kindly jonsented to act as judges in the various sections: —Mr Breeze, cut- blooms and fruit; Mr Nightingale, domestic and cookery; the Mayoress, Mrs Perry, fancy work and school children’s classes. The Show no doubt will be interesting and attractive, and, given fine weather, there is every reason the promoters will be rewarded with a good , attendance, and it is to be hoped a sub- ; stantial amount will be able to be handed over to the Hostel Fund from , the proceeds. j At Preston’s tea rooms last evening the lecturers, students, and others were the guests of Mr W. Jeffries, and a couple of hours were passed in pleasant intercourse and entertainment. Mr Evans, President of the Progress League, presided, and after the good things provided received attention, led the company in aprogramme of speech, soil® and story- YTte toasts honored j were “The King.” “The Winter School’* (proposed by the Chairman I and responded to by- Professor Shelley laud Mr Belshaw). “The Westland ' Progress League,” (proposed by- Mr Belshaw and replied to by Messrs Jeffries and Morris). “The Ladies,” (proposed by Mr Butler and responded to .by Messrs Neal and Garnett). “The Host,” (proposed by Professor Condliffe and replied to by-' Ml' Jeffries). Entertaining items were rendered by Miss Jones, Messrs Learmont, Aldridge, Gibbons and Lawn, and a quarter of an hour was given up to community singillgi The proceedings were very bright and pleasant, and closed with the singing of Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem,
