MEAT. The demand is slow and prices generally have slightly declined, i with the market very unsettled. Australian and South American mutton and lamb are in substantial supply and in competition with New Zealand with a lowering effect. New Zealand beef—Ox hinds -Id, fores 2;|d per lb. ‘ BUTTER. The market was quietly steady throughout the week, with a slightly easier tendency towards the close. Official quotations are:— New Zealand (salted), 180 sto 184 s (Is 7) 1 1 to Is 7;,'d per lb) ; exceptional, 188 s per cwt (Is 8)<! per Hi). New Zealand (unsaltud), 178 s to 180 s Ms 7d to 1 s 7:‘,d per Hi). Australian (saltcdi, 172 s to 176 s -Is (5.1 dto Is (i:|d per lb). CHEESE. The market was rather depressed and business was irregular until towards the end of the week, when the demand improved at lower rates. The English stocks rue practically exhausted. CASEIN. The market is tinned for French. Present quotations are: Rennet. New Zealand Clift, French £45 per toll. HONEY. Tile market is quiet and quotations are nominal. New Zealand light umbel prime Mis io 81s iß)d (o Oil per lb), light amber special '"(is Oil (!“,tl per lb), medium amber prime 75s per cwt 'Bl pei lb). II EM I*. The manila market is again easier with a poor demand. The output con-| tinut's large compiled with last year. •‘G - ’ grade April-June shipments and May-,Lily sliipnients s-ild at £32 per ton early this week, and .June-August shipments CM 1 |os per ton later. Present quotations are:—Sellers, Al.ny-July shipments. "G” and “II” grades, £3l j per mu. The output from -lanuaiy I to April 30 was 373,000 bales, against 2511,000 bales for the same period lasi veer. The New Zealand market is again weaker, with an entire absence ol demand. Sellers quote nominally highpoint spot £3O 10s; Alny-Jtdy shipments, £2!': fair spot £29; Alav—July sliipnients £2B per ton. WOOL. The sales continue .satisfactorily, ami prices for cross-breds generally aie 5 per cent dearer since opening. The Continental demand is good. FRUIT. There is a good demand for apples, and in spite of heavy ai rivals three boats of Australian and two of New Zealand supplies are selling readily. One shipment of Australian arrived in very poor condition and sold at 12s to Us per case. This is somewhat affecting priios. The Peshawar arrived early and has discharged. The condition ol j the fruit generally was not equal to the consignment per Westmoreland. Some wore wasty and shrivelled and a fair amount not matured. Prices realised for good average fruit Kis to 18s per case tor Dunn’s, Loudon Pippin. Jonathan and Delicious; Cox’s 20s to 24s per case.
