“IMMORTAL’S” DUEL. PARIS, March 7. The era of journalistic duels may be revived again by challenges which have been issued in the dispute arising out of the acquisition of the control of the old-established and aristocratic newspaper Le Eignro by M. ‘Cotv, a wealthy perfume manufacturer. The resigning editor, M. Lntzurus, considering himself insulted by an article signed by the new joint editors, MM. Alfred Capus and Robert tie Flers, both “Immortals,” members of the French Academy, sent his seconds to the former. M. Capus declined to nominate seconds, but M. do Flers who felt that he was insulted because as joint author of the article he had not I teen challenged too, has now challenged M. Latzarus. M. Georges Hreittmayer, a French authority on duelling, holds that tic motive of the latter challenge is - too slight. “Duelling since the war has become in France a far more serious matter than it was,” ho says. “The old days of much publicity about duelling are over and conditions are now made purposely severe. The swordsmen wear leather gloves to the elbow, which obliges them to thrust at the body instead of inflicting insignificant forearm wounds,'while in pistol duels arms of precision arc used.”
