A magnificent fallow stag, bearing probably the best head ever obtained in the Tapanui district, was shot by Air Thomas Wilson, of Kaitangata, Inst wedk. The stag had had quite a provincial reputation for about four years in Black Gully bush, nnd many keen sportsmen had sought the honour of securing the coveted trophy (says the Tilpniltii “Cburier”), The head ife a twenty-six pointer, with a spread of thirty-four inches. The head bbtaihed by Mr J. AV. Cunningham in the Rankleburn Forest some years ago had a spread over all of 35J inches; number of points, 26; length, 26Jin; breadth of palm, 6Jin. One of the best heads of red deer of the season has been secured by Air C. Harvey, of Hawea, above the junction of the two streams of the Hunter river and near the eastern divide. The head is a 17pointer, and a sixteen and fourteen, shot in the same block, were also got by Messrs Harvey and C. Weir.
