Saturday’s Lyttelton Times said:— The Canterbury Progress League is issuing invitations to Canterbury fanners and others interested to attend at a farm school to be held in Hokitika from May 1.3 to May 20. This school has been organised by the AV.E.A. on the West Coast, and has been supported with much enthusiasm by West Coast people, who are very anxious to secure attendance from this side of the range. The plan of the school is business combined with pleasure, and information may be obtained from the Canterbury Progress League. A euchre tournament and dance will Ire held in the Town Hall, Rimu, on Wednesday, Alay 10th, in aid of the Roman Catholic School. There will bo four values for the euchre, donated by J. The “Lyttelton Times” says:—Mr S. P. Briggs, who has just retired from the Official Assignee’s Department to go into business as a land and commission agent, was transferred from Hokitika to Christchurch during the war to take charge of the soldiers’ estates that were being administered by the Public Trust Office. At the close of the war he was transferred to the Officinl Assignee’s office, where he was associated for the'last few years with Mr A. M. Eames.
In the course of liis remarks at the meeting in connection with the Salvation Army Congress at Wellington, Commissioner Hodder stated that the army was represented in 73 countries and colonies, and preached the Gospel in 46 languages. It had 12,211 corps and outposts, arid tlie number of Officers arid cadets fully employed in Srilyrition Army work was 19,276; Apart from these there were 5941 employees from the various departments. The Army had no fewer than 33.436 bandsmen. senior and young people, and it published 83 weekly periodicals, with a circulation approaching a million and a half. j
