The Department of Agriculture lias received the following cablegram, dated April 2!), from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: MEAT. The market is rather slow and theie is a weaker tendency. Lamb is in poor demand. A good supply of meat of all descriptions is available, especially veal and pork. Quotations are: N.Z. Mutton.—Lightweight 73d to BJid, medium to Bd, heavyweight Gd to 8d; ewes, lightweight Gild per lb. Lamb—Best quality lightweight 11 Id to 11 id., heavyweight lid, ordinary lldd; second-class quality lOjd. per lb. Chilled Beef— Supplies are smaller and prices are firmer. Hinds 7/d, fores -lid per lb. N.Z. Beef—Nominal quotations; Hinds -Id, fores 2Jd per lb. Detail meat prices are as follows: Mutton —English legs Is lid, loins 2s Id. shoulders Is 10d; imported, legs Is HI, loins lid, shoulders lid per 11). Lamb—English legs 2s -Id, loins Is 4(1, shoulders Is 4d. Beef—English, ribs and sirloin Is 10d, steak 2s 8d; imported. chilled rilis and sirloin Is 2d, steak 2s 8d; imported, chilled rilis and sirloin Is 2d, steak Is fid; frozen ribs and sirloin lid, steak Is 7d. per lb. BUTTER. The market is firm for salted, for which the demand is steady, but quiet for unsaltcd. Present quotations are: New Zealand —Salted 182 s to 188 s per cW t (Is 7Jd to Is 81 d per lb).; unsalted 180 sto 184 s per cwt (Is 7id to Is 7/jd per lb). Australian—Salted 172 s to 174 s (Is Gd per lb); unsalted, ]GBs to 172 s (Is Gd to Is 65d per lb). Argon tine —IGOs, to 108 s per cwt (Is old to Is Gd per lb). Danish—The market is slow; 181 sto 188 s (Is 7;Jd to Is B{d per lb). CHEESE. The market is steadier at the following reduced prices: Canadian —Coloured, 92s to 102, white 80s to 90s per cwt. New Zea-land-Coloured 88s to 925, white 78s to 82s ; exceptional 91s per cwt. English stocks are practically exhausted. ‘ HEMP. The Manila market is quiet and easier.. ‘(1” grade. April-.]une shipment, sold at. £33 10s per ton. “H” grade is quoted at £B3 per toil hv selFers. The New Zealand market is dull. Spot holders of high fair are asking £32 per ton, and there are sellers of fair afiont down to .£29 10s per ton. hut no business is reported. AVOOL. The Bradford market is firm, with a keen demand for fine tops. Medium and low cross-bred tops are more act ive. Present quotations are : GG’s (merino) Is 7d; 56’s (super halfbred) 2s spi; 10’s (coarse cross-bred) prepared Is 01 <l. At the next series of London sales the approximate offerings will he as follows—B.A.AV.H.A., 75,000 hales of which .‘15,000 biles are Australian 32,000 hales New Zealand, and the balance Cape Colony; privately owned, 80,000 hales of which GO,OOO are Australian. 18,000 New Zealand and the balance Cape Colony and South American. FRUIT. The market is quieter, but prices remain good, notwithstanding two cargoes of Australian being offered in the mai-Kcl this week. Present quotations are : —-'Australian and Tasmanian Cox’s 18s to 2ls; Jonathan 15s to 18s; Cleopatra 18s to 21s; Munro’s 17s to ISs per box.

Practically all Xew Zealand first shipments were sold before the holidays. Australian pears in good condition are selling well. Half-cases Hose are quoted at 10s to 14s, Clairgeaus 8s to 10s. The s.s. AVangaratta is due next week. IXitiS. There is a steady demand for all kinds.
