Westland’s Resotjkces. The economic possibilities of the area of AVestland in the Hokitika district a.re many and varied. Its forests contain timber of great value, and represent much wealth to be developed in the future. In places its soil is rich and fertile, and there are considerable stretches of onooccupied country to be denuded of their timber, and to be utilised for purposes of agriculture and pasturage. The numerous powerful" Tivens exhibit immense stores of water power for development. It. is, however, with its mineral potentialities we sire especially interested. These include auriferous and platiniferous veins, goldbearing gravels, greenstone, talc, coal, clay for brick-making, and stones for ornamental and building purposes.
