OKURU NOTES.
(From All Occasional Correspondent) Tbo annual race meeting took place at Ok urn at Easter and was pronounced a great success. The inclemency of the weather made a postponement nones- • gory. Although the weather was damp itdid not seem to dampen the enthusiasm ‘ shown. Training had been going oh for I some weeks, prior to the meeting an.l keen competition was evident. A good number of visitors attended from'ns far north at Karangnrua and ; tlieir presence, together with collide of good horses from Bruce Bay, added greatly to tbe success of the meeting :
The results of the meeting were as follows: — Maiden Race, 4 furlongs.—lrish Rose <i\ Nolan), I', Twinkle (J. Cron dr ) 2nd. Four starters. Hapuka Stakes (Trial race) 1 mile - Flashlight 11.7 (J. Cron) 1, Rubio 11 (J, Harris) 2. Three starters. Mussel Point Trot 1| miles—Somme Rose scr. (W. Ritchie) 1, Lady Lytton 25 secs (Ivy Cron) 2. Four starters. Southern Handicap, 1 mile—Flashlight 12.7 (J. Cron) 1. Lady Giweley 12.0 (J. Cron Jr.) 2. Five starters. Stewards Handicap, fi furlongs—lrish Base (alloL- weight 11.7) (l*. Nolan) 1, Kilbirnie 11.7 (J. Harris) 2. hour starters. •Consolation Race, 1 furlongs—Bon IVOr 11.7 (W. Ritchie) 1, Kilbirnie 11.7 ( j; Harris) 2. Four starters. Tbe 2! vrs. filly Irish Rose, owned by P. Nolan made a splendid display winning both races in which she was entered, in easy style. Being broken in only three weeks previous and carrying (iv ; r 13 slime (as a lighter rider was unavailable) she acquitted herself m a manner worthy of her great sire. She (Imported from the North Island) and is from the thoroughbred Rangihero sired by Sarto.
