The,monthly meeting of the Chamber wos‘held at the County Chambers at 7.30 o’clock. Present—Messrs G. A. Perry (Chairman), B. AA'ild, J. Ritchie, 1 C. J. 'Nightingale, 'l'. W. 'Bruce, M. Houston and 1). J. Evans. Apology was ma’de for the absence of Mr XV. Butler out of town.
The minutes of the previous meeting; were confirmed and the outward conespondenre approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE.
From Resident lEngineer, -stating the Public Works Department wasnlrnliug with the slow progress -in connection with the construction df.ithe Wuitaha Bridge approaches.—tfteeci veil ; Regret was expressed that‘the speeding tl p so far had not been very satisfactory, and it was resolved‘to'write again and urge in view of -the state -of the ford that the road approaches do the bridge be expedited to itlie fdlleSt extent.
From Taxpayers’‘Federation, Wellington, acknowledging •contribution of five guineas, thanking the Chamber for acting as a local Committee, and asking individual subscriptions he raised.—Received.
From Associated 'Chambers of 'Commerce forwarding minutes of recent executive meeting and notifying the nekt Dominion Conference would he held at Dunedin on November Ist, and 2nd. Received and annual subscription to the Association passed for payment. From Tourist Department staling the complaints in regard to the lack of knowledge of the Remirtment’s officers in respect to the scenic attractions of the West Coast were not warranted, and forwarding copies of Agents’ reports from the various centres notifying they had a full knowledge of the Coast and strongly recommend the West Coast tour to visitors. —Received; Members expressed satisfaction that the complaints made hod brought forward such a full reply. It was resolved to notify those who had complained, of the Departmental reply, and to notify ti e Director at Wellington accordingly. From T. E. Y. Seddon, M.P. forwarding lettci from the Minister of Marine Stating that in respect to the representations made for improved shipping ’facilities to the South Westland Imvs the Government was endeavouring 'to arrange a satisfactory service and proposed communicating with the Anchor ( <>y in regard to a southern trip tlnve or four times a year, and enquiring particulars ns to the probable trade.— Roteived with thanks. It was resolved to reply that the Anchor Coy., had been notified by the Hokitika Sbippmg Coy., of the volume of trade. The opinion was further expres-ed that the >ccagiunal visits of the Government Stea liter would meet the immediate requirements.
A number of magazines and commercial journals were le,id on the table. Received with thniiks. GENERAL.

The matter of a burse ferry at the At aitaiu’i -river crossing was discussed, and it was resolved hi enquire wb't e.aild be don- in the matter with a view to reducing charges for crossing the ford.
A suggestion was made that the f." ice v.ceklv mail during tho winter months should he rallied as far as the Wataroa Settlement, that being an extension from I lari Dari, and the journey < oui:l be accomplished within the same lime as allotted for the shorter stage. It was resolved to write the l’ostina.ster on the 'matter.
It was rep uted the Local Bodies Coni' reive fell to he held on Wednesday May 31st, and it was decided to notify the local bodies accordingly. The Treasurer reported £2l Ms 3d in hand. Accounts-to the amount of £ll 7s were passed for payment. It, was decided to notify members whose subscriptions were in arrears.
