The Assembly rejected a clause in r he Salaries Bill making provision for the Solicitor-General, by 43 to 33, the Progressives voting with Labour in the majority. Government do not regard the defeat as vital. A clause reducing members salaries to £()(>(> was carried by 43 to 33. Labour voting with the minority. The House was sitting nil night discussing amendments to reduce Ministers salaries.

Mr Hughes denies the report that the Australia is to be sunk. He says the future is uncertain until the- result if the Washington Conference is definitely known. The Rattdwick Council adopted a motion that the Commonwealth be asked to sink the Australia off Coogee, + o ho utilised as a pier for eroding a shark proof fence.
