MINERS’ WAGES.
SUBSTANTIAL REDUCTION. WELLINGTON, May 1. There is said to he a prospect of the price of coal being reduced as a result of the Arbitration Court having filed an order reducing the wages of the workers coal mines. This order of the Court has been made in pursuance of a Clause in the Coal Mines Amendment, which contains a provision for the rates of wages being reviewed every six months, and adjusted in accordance with tho movement in the cost of living figures for the food groups. Tile only effect of the order, which operates from to-day, is to reduce the wages of the minimum time rate men from 10s per day to 14s 3d. Corresponding decreases, however, are also made in tho rates of the piece workers.
