TYPHOID OUTBREAK. AUCKLAND, April 26

Eleven new eases of typhoid have been notified since Monday, making a total of one hundred now. Seventy cases arc in Auckland. Hospital, where another death occurred this morning. In the Mental hospital there have been four deaths since, last Thursday, siiufe when there have been no further cases here.

WELLINGTON, April 26

The secretary of Stratford Retailers Association this morning was fined £5 and costs for establishing a lottery in connection with a system to raise £IOOO to improve the school grounds. One member was also fined £5 for selling tickets.

At thoi Supreme Court, Leslie Dougrrfield Chapman, for theft and falsifying an account at Dcvonport, while employed as 'the Harbour Board’s wharfinger, was put on probation for three years, on condition that he reimbursed £54 misappropriated, that £3 costs of prosecution is repaid, and that n prohibition order is taken out.

For thefts of motor cars, Frank Joseph Wood (19) and Harold Joseph Whittle (18) were sentenced to reformative treatment not exceeding five years. William George McKernan (32) was sentenced to a year’s reformative treat ment.

MOTOR ACCIDENT

AY ATM ATE, April 26,

A motor car convoying Mr and Mrs MoUraith and two children, and Mrs MeLeay and two children, ran into a train at a railway crossing. The train struck the motor at a slight angle, and the - • was thrown clear, but was smashed to matchwood. Mrs MoUraith sustained injuries to her spine and head, and was taken to the hospital.
