The Alunicipal Band visited the Alen. tal Hospital last Sunday afternoon and played a very pleasing programme which was much appreciated by staff and patients. The band were entertained at afternoon tea and the Superintendent thanked the Bawd, hoping they would renew their visit at an eai y date.
On Saturday at Ngnkawan a halfIVI jie foot race for £SO a side took place, many being present to see the race. The weather was cold. Harris won by seven yards. The time was slow 1)eill „ two minutes 25 seconds. From the pistol shot/Harris took the lead and continued there until going down the back straight the second time, when Nahr sprinted and went to the fiont. Round the curve, Harris came again, and passed Nahr and kept his lead to th e . finish, winning by seven yards. Both were in an exhausted state in the straight in the run home.
Prior to the parade of the Returned Soldiers yesterday aferuoon. Air Evans, I‘resident, addressed the men in regard to joining the Association. He pointed out the advisability of the men being associated for mutual help and support, and conveyed the message from General Russell given when here lately. Air Evans said the local Association would be a. live body. It was hoped to secure the Horticultural Hall for a club room, a.nd to place a billiard table in it, and so provide quarters where the men could meet regularly and pass pleasant evenings. Tli© Executive bad the matter in hand, and the stronger the Association was, the greater would be the success of the Club. Several members were enrolled at the close of the after,noon parade.
