OFT OF WORK
EX-SOLDIERS AND IMMIGRANTS
CHRISTCHURCH, April 22
The Labour Department’s Bureau here has about 00 unemployed men on its books at the present time.
The Repatriation Department lias also about 00 men on its bureau. It is thought possible that some of the men mav be included in both lists.
.Most of the- unemployed belong to the unskilled labour class. Some ol the men are partially disabled ex-sold-iers, who want light work, which is particularly scarce just now. A proportion of the out-of-works are Imperial ex-soldiers and some are recently arrived immigrants.
The freezing works are giving work to a number of semi-skilled men, but. the other industries cannot absorb many more of the unskilled labourers now offering.
