GREYMOI'TH SIS'I KPS OF MKRCY

During the present week at the Greymouth Convent of Mercy the Silver Jubilee has been celebrated of two members of the Convent community, Sisters Mary Xavier and Sister Mary Alphonses. Recently the pupils of the Convent schools entertained the jubilarians at a concert. On Wednesday the Convent was thronged with visitors who were the guests ol the Rev. Mother at a concert and afternoon tea. The concert rendered by the children was an excellent one, and was greatly enjoyed by all present. The guests included the Mothers Superior'and other from Hokitika, Lyttelton and other convents. The jubilarians, who were the recipients of hearty congratulations alp] many appropriate presents from far and near, wer o further honoured yesterday, it being the 2-jtli. anniversary of their profession as Sisters of Mercy. Solemn High Mass was celebrated in St. Patrick’s Church. A large congregation attended. Rev. Father Long (Administrator) was celebrant, assisted by Rev. Fathers Madden (Deacon) and Hcwrinp; Mnrist Missioncr (Sub-Deacon) Rev. Dr Kennedy was Master of Ceremonies and he also preached an eloquent occasional sermon taking for his text from St Peter “V have left all things to follow Thee.” The ceremony concluded with Solemn Benediction. The Sisters’ Choir sang the Mass in a most inspiring manner, the congregation being much moved by the choral service. Among the priests present for the jubilee were Rev. Fathers Bowe (Westport). Bonelto (Kumara), Piordan (Ross), Herring (Redton, Madden, Long, O’Regan and MeMonogle.,, ,
