WESTLAND RACING CLUB

AUTUMN MEETING

The autumn meeting of the Westland Racing Club passed off very successfully yesterday afternoon 'after very unfavorable attention of the weather the previous night and car y yesterday morning, when a heavy gate of unusual severity was experienced, j The morning broke line with a southei- j 1 V blowing, but about 9 o’clock a heavy shower burst and made the out- i look very unpromising. It soon cle.u-| ed however, and gradually improving, from noon onwards bright sunshine, I was experienced. The weather conditions in the early morning, howeve.. considerably affected the attendance which was a good deal less than «t last Easter meeting. The rain had affected the course, which was very heavy, but the going was good. There were good holds, and the racing was excellent there being some good finishes The race for the Autumn Handicap wals a hue one, the held being bunched till the distance was reached alum the winner came .away m good style. The handicapping of Mr Noble left hackers wondering, and the fine racing proved the value of his work. Mr Rutland had a very successful day, bis starting being of a very fine standj ard, the fields being sent away in perj feet order in every instance. The I Stipendiary Steward (Mr Norton) bad ! a verv easy day, there being nothing jto require his special attention. The l officers of the Club, as usual, were all at their posts and their duties were (arried through without a hitch. The Town Band was present and played an man-able programme. The booths suffered with the smaller attendance an 1 were not as busy as usual. Gold Problem on the inside soon took the lead, Carnbrae being next. A hue race saw Gold Problem land the stake by a length, with Tantalus finishing fast in third place. Time 1.31. Tote £1329.

'Uhe weather was fine and warm for the third day of the A.J.C. Autumn Meeting, the attendance being 35.000. A pleasant afternoon’s racing was witnessed though the investors were kept grossing to the end.

Bestuforcl’s magnificent mile performance was remarkable for its casual, easy; going style. He could have established new. figures if be bad been extended.

-Eurythmic’s form in ti.o Cumberland Stakes* was ‘ disappointing, though bis defeat was not understood. The champion is seemingly off colour, tempera - iiy.

David’s victory was popular, and he ived an ovation.
