An exciting episode occurred oil the Wellington waterfront on Saturday afternoon, April Btli, which nearly resulted in the drowning of a man named John Doyle, residing at No. 7, Douglas street. It appears that Doyle was walking along the concrete breastwork about 4.J0 p. 111., between the Taranaki street and Clyde quay wharves, when lie overbalanced and fell into the harbour. He was apparently drowning when his plight was noticed b.v B. L. Button and W. Waddilove. owner and helmsman respectively, of the yacht Linnet, in which they were becalmed about 400 yards from Doyle.
