i HY TBMSGUAI'H— PKR PKESS ASSOCIATION’ A BURGLARY. WAJROA. April 15. In the small hours of Thursday Aliss Foot’s residence was burglariously entered and a quantity of jewels and clothing taken. On Thursday evening a note was found on the lawn of Scrgt Wade’s residence stating the stolen articles were concealed under a bridge where four cross roads met near the river. A search was made and the articles were found intact in the eiei’k with the exception of a small sum ol money which the letter stated, was kept to buy food us he had nothing to eat all day. The police ahe making further inquiries.

ALANSLAUGHTER CHARGE. GISBORNE, April 15. At the inquest on Frances Jean McCarthy, single, 27, the Coroner returned a verdict that, death was due to being knocked down by a motor car under the joint control of Sydney Hirst Forbes and Albert Hector Charles. The Coroner said he felt it his duty to say the evidence showed a state ol things that could only he described us shocking, when received as the possible standard of conduct of motor ear drivers towards other users ol the road. DROWNING FATALITY. DUNEDIN. April 16

A sad bathing fatality occurred at llomahawk Beach on Saturday as a result of which Allison Aloid Eraser, wife of Donald Fraser, attendant at the Sea cl iff Alental Hospital, lost her life. The deceased, who was secretary ol the Dunedin Ladies’ Swimming Club, had gone with other members of the Club to Tomahawk' for the holidays. At the inquest a verdict of accidental drowning was returned. AN ARREST. WELLINGTON, April 18 Last night James Donnelly when along Lambton Quay, noticed two men in a doorway ot a. tobacconist’s shop and being suspicious of their intentions hunted up a constable. Returning they saw the men crossing the street. One stood, but the other bolted, and was chased bv Donnelly, who after a fight secured his man. Both are believed to lie Germans, and Donnelly who was one of the captured Wainlna’ s crew, and had two year’s harsh treatment as a prisoner, may he believed to have gone into the encounter with some relish. His action was greatly commended by the police.
